Hedgehogs – Year 1

Welcome to class Hedgehogs.

This is the year where the children start on The National Curriculum. It has a balance of both continuous provision initially and structured learning. By the Spring Term, the children have a much more structured environment. Phonics screening takes place this year-in June. We continue using our ELS scheme to help children segment and blend sounds so that reading becomes second nature to them. Lots of fun things happen in Year 1. Class Hedgehogs are lucky because we have two teachers! Miss Newsome in the mornings and Miss Woodhouse in the afternoons. The support staff are Miss Smith and Miss Cadman.

Our children are 5 and 6 years old in Class Hedgehogs.
